           Nathan Adams

Celtic 2nds entertained old rivals Kenfig Hill at Garth Park last Saturday and came away victors in a closely contested encounter.

Kenfig hill took the lead after 10 minutes when they turned the ball over and their no.7 touched down in the corner. Great play by the Celtic front 5 put pressure on the visitors defence but errors let the visitors off. Celtic took the lead after 30 minutes when scrum half Nathan Edwards threw a quick pass from a 10 yd scrum which allowed centre Connor Thomas to burst through the defence and touch down under the posts. Outside half Rhodri Thomas converted.

Celtic were unlucky not to go further ahead when flanker Ben Poole broke through the defence and kicked ahead only to have the ball roll into touch near the line. Just before half time the Visitors took a quick penalty and poor discipline and weak tackling allowed them to score under the posts.

Celtic attacked from the restart and came close to scoring from breaks by Dewi Freeman, Tom Mines, Mark Wilkins and drives by the pack, but failed to touch down. With 25 minutes to go, Kenfig Hill extended their lead with a well worked try in the corner. This did not affect the work rate of front row of Tom Rees, Morgan Reeves and Mark Wilkins who were ably supported by second rows Anthony Gibbons and Owen Wanklyn.

The last 15 minutes was a furious affair with Celtic upping their game. Their back row of Nathan Adams, Ben Poole and Tom Mines were everywhere. While the centres Connor Thomas and Neil Arthur were awesome. The back three of Dewi Freeman, Gavin Joseph and Scott Wilkins were impenetrable.

Celtic closed the score when centre Neil Arthur received a tap penalty from scrum half Kristian Jenkins and burst through the visitors defence for a try which Rhodri Thomas converted. Celtic took the lead when Thomas kicked a penalty to the corner and the pack drove Captain Nathan Adams over to score. Thomas converted and kicked a penalty on full time to make the game safe.

Neil Arthur and Tom Mines received strong votes but Man of the Match award was given to Mark Wilkins for a huge performance with the ball in hand.
