Celtic Resolven 21 v 14 Maesteg

A Maesteg Celtic team, tired from last week’s massive effort in the WRU Plate, travelled to Resolven for a Division 2 West Central Match. With the early loss of last week’s man of the match Sean Lambert and both lineout jumpers playing in the back row, Celtic found it difficult to obtain good possession. The pack was under pressure for most of the game. They spent most of the game defending against a team prepared to run the ball at all times. Celtics three quarters of Aaron Williams, Lee Arthur, Kristian Jenkins Lloyd Jenkins and Man of the Match Scot James defended bravely against a well organised home attack.

Celtic opened the scoring when outside half Scott Sainsbury was high tackled. Centre Kristian Jenkins took the kick. Resolven responded with a high kick to the corner which they gathered and touched down. Sainsbury kicked two penalties to put Celtic ahead at the break.

The home team played with the slope and the conditions, second half , and scored two converted tries to build up a lead. Celtic showed great determination in the last quarter and made a number of drives at the home line. One of which resulted in flanker Ryan Turner crossing for a touchdown to earn a losing bonus point. The last five minutes saw Celtic pound the Resolven defence but were unable to get the vital score.
