Scott Davies Tribute Match

Maesteg Celtic RFC were due to play Pwllheli in a WRU Plate fixture. The players and committee decided to make the game a tribute match to Scott Davies, a member of the club who recently passed away. Unfortunately Pwllheli informed them on the Friday that they were unable to fulfil the fixture due to adverse weather conditions. Celtic had made great preparations for the game and contacted local clubs to try to arrange a replacement at short notice. The coaches of Glyncorrwg RFC and Nanymoel RFC responded and a combined team was put together.

Celtic had selected their strongest side for the cup match but Coach Kieran Power invited second team players who had played with Scott to play in the second half. The game was played in good spirit with both teams playing entertaining rugby. Celtic try scorers were Leon Evans 2, Kristian Jenkins 2, Lee Arthur, and Mathew Harris, who converted all the tries. Ben Evans scored for the Combined XV.

The players joined with Scott’s family after the game for a magnificent buffet, prepared by the Coach’s mother, and Secretary Robert McGee thanked everyone in the community for their support at such a difficult time.
