Maesteg Celtic took a squad of 33 players to Sardis Road Pontypridd to play division 2 East side St Peters for a pre-season match. The game was played on the new 3G surface which was a new experience for the Celtic players. There was some concern early in the game when Celtic full back Scott James went off with a dislocated elbow and the St Peters scrum half left with concussion but apart from some “grass burns” there were no further serious problems.

The game was played at a high tempo and all the squad had an opportunity to experience the occasion. St Peters three quarters showed great handling and their extra pace allowed them to score 6 tries. Celtics only response was a fine effort which was finished off by the ever present Jonathan Davies.
