Nanymoel 41 v 26 Maesteg Celtic

Maesteg Celtic visited Nantymoel with a team that had a number of changes in the threequarters. Celtic forwards were dominant throughout the game and controlled both scrums and lineouts. Captain Oliver Petty lead by example with many charging runs, while scrum half Mathew Harris broke the defensive line time and again.

Nantymoel opened the scoring when the ball popped out of the scrum near half way and it was hacked down field for a try. Celtic responded when forwards and backs combined to take the ball to the Nantymoel line. Flanker Callum Bowen crossed for the try which was converted by Mathew Harris.

Nantymoel went back in front when a poor kick ahead was gathered and weak tackling allowed them to score from distance  Celtic regained the lead when the referee awarded a penalty try as a result of Nantymoel forwards killing the ball defending their line. Nantymoel took the ball into the Celtic 22 but were turned over. The Celtic clearance kick was charged down and Nantymoel scored. They went further ahead after Celtic threw a poor pass which allowed Nantymoel to score. The half ended with a Nantymoel penalty.

The second half began in the same manner. A Celtic dropped pass allowed Nantymoel in for another try which was quickly followed by their sixth. Celtic did not give up and dominated the remainder of the game. Harris kicked a penalty to the corner, hooker Ashley Poole found Alex Jones in the lineout, and the pack drove their opponents over the line for Ashley Poole to touch down. Mathew Harris converted. In the dying minutes of the match Harris kicked a penalty to the corner, substitute hooker Mathew Phillips found Alex Jones from the lineout and the pack drove their opponents over the line for Phillips to touch down. Although well beaten Celtic came away with a bonus point for four tries.
