Nantyffyllon 2nds 10 v 23 Maesteg Celtic 2nds

Maesteg Celtic 2nds visited Nantyffyllon for a hastily rearranged fixture after Llanharan 2nds withdrew for a cup commitment. Celtic were keen to make up for the fiasco of the fixture in the mud at Llangynwyd a few weeks ago.

Celtic pack gave an all round driving performance, pushing the Nanty pack backwards throughout the game. Celtic three quarters tackled ferociously and kept their opposite numbers at bay.

Nanty opened the scoring with a penalty which was soon cancelled out when Celtic scrum half Neil Sainsbury burst over from 5 yards to score. Outside half Rhodri Thomas converted.

Thomas put Celtic further ahead with a penalty from the half way line. Nanty had a player red carded for abuse to the ref and Thomas kicked another penalty.

Hooker Alun Blackwell took a tap penalty and ran through the Nanty pack to touch down. Thomas converted. Celtic brought on their subs to shut the game out but Nanty managed a consolation try from broken play. Celtic centre Lee Sainsbury was voted Man of the Match
