Aberavon Green Stars 2nds 7 v 28 Maesteg Celtic 2nds

Celtic were disappointed to find that Aberavon Green Stars 2nds wanted to start with passive scrums. The game started at a frantic pace with both sides demonstrating their attacking intent. Celtic went ahead following some fine interplay with backs and forwards. The ball moved between at least 15 pairs of hands before Nathan Adams scored near the posts for Rhodri Thomas to convert. Celtic were already on top with forwards working well and Rhodri Thomas using the wind to kick some monster touch finders.  Scrum half Nathan Edwards sent out a stream of passes, and the concerted pressure led to Morgan Reeves going over, again converted by Thomas. Rhys Fisher and Neil Arthur were combining well at centre. Mathew Jones supported them at the breakdown and a typical powerful driving run saw him burst over. Rhodri Thomas converted to take the score at half time to 21-0.

Second half saw Aberavon GS improve considerably using the wind effectively and their speedy young backs caused a few problems but Celtics defence stood firm. Nathan Jenkins had a number of strong runs supported by John Brown, and Neil Arthur scored a clever try under the post, converted again by Rhodri Thomas. Aberavon GS scored a late consolation try to end the game at 7 – 28 to Celtic.

It turned out to be a very good work out, with everyone of Celtics team playing particularly well, It was a very entertaining match, and all players from both sides played with commitment and enjoyment.
