Morriston 33 v 21 Maesteg Celtic

Maesteg Celtic fifth in the Table visited Morriston who were third for the final game of the season with a few key players missing. It was an exciting match played in good spirit.

Morriston threequarters took advantage of the slope in the first half and ran in the first try from their own 22ms. They extended their lead when their fullback ran through the Celtic team to dive over under the posts. He lost control of the ball in the air but was still awarded the try. Morriston lost two players to the bin for killing the ball and outside half Mathew Harris kicked the penalty to the corner. Hooker Ashley Poole found second row Mark Hillier-Rees who was driven over the try line for Ashley Poole to score. Mathew Harris converted. From the kick off Hillier-Rees was shoulder charged in the back and fell to the ground. Celtic players stopped in shock and the Morriston scrum half threw the ball to his wing who ran in a try.

Morriston gained their bonus point try within minutes of the restart. Celtic didn’t give up and began to control the play. Forwards Jonathan Davies, Rhys Jones and Sean Lambert carried the ball well and centres Kristian Jenkins and Lee Arthur made great breaks. Celtic scored when outside half Mathew Harris chipped ahead and gathered the ball to score near the posts. He converted his try.  More great interpassing by the threequarters resulted in centre Lee Arthur scoring. Harris converted. With only five points between the teams, Celtic put great pressure on the Morriston line. Scrum half Lloyd Paget distributed well, while back rows Nathan Adams Callum Bowen and Jonathan Davies gave their all to no avail. Morriston took the ball into the Celtic 22 and made the game safe with a try in the Corner.
