Maesteg Celtic 26 – 39 Ammanford

Maesteg Celtic welcomed visitors Ammanford to Garth Park hoping to ease their relegation worries. Ammanford brought a strong side with four players from the Championship to strengthen their team. They soon exerted their superiority with an unconverted try after 5 minutes. Celtic exerted pressure from the restart but the visitors won turnover ball in their own 22 and ran the length of the field to score. Once again Celtic pack gained possession in their opponents 22 from the restart as a result of a fine break by wing Lewis Jenkins. Flanker Jonathan Davies took the ball on and scrum half Morgan Lloyd raced through a gap from the resulting ruck to touch down. Matthew Harris converted. Ammanford extended their lead from half way when their centre raced through the Celtic defence, drew the full back and threw a long pass to the wing for a try. They closed the half with a penalty kick as a result of Celtic being caught offside.

Ammanford opened the second half with a penalty. They then took advantage of Celtic losing a player to a yellow card and ran in a try from an interception by their second row. Both sides then had a player yellow carded before Ammanford extended their lead to 39-7 with a kick and chase touchdown. Celtic had another player yellow carded. With 10 minutes left Celtic upped their game and Matthew Harris kicked a penalty to the corner.  Their forwards repeatedly attacked the visitors line before flanker Peter Kehoe broke clear and passed to Harris arriving at pace on the blind side. Harris scored the try and converted it. Celtic counter attacked from the kick off and full back James Dixon put centre Kristian Jenkins clear to run around the defence before passing to wing Geraint Roberts for the touchdown which he converted. The Celtic pack returned the kickoff with relish and took play into the visitors half and earned a penalty. Matthew Harris kicked it into the corner and hooker Morgan Reeves found jumper Alex Jones who was driven over the try line for Reeves to score the bonus point try. Flanker Jonathan Davies was voted Celtic man of the match.
