Maesteg Celtic continued their battles at the bottom of Division One West Central when they faced promotion challengers Glynneath at Garth Park. Celtic made nine changes to the team that bravely won a bonus point last week against Ammanford.

Glynneath dominated possession for the first twenty minutes. They maintained a high tempo and stretched the Celtic defence to its limits but were unable to break through the rush defence of the new centre partnership of Sam Mines and Harrison Evans. Their only reward was a penalty for offside in front of the posts. As the game progressed the Celtic back row of Bleddyn Griffiths, Nathan Adams and Captain Oliver Petty began to win the contact area. Harrison Evans kicked a well earned penalty into the visitors 22. Jumper Mark Hillier-Rees won the lineout and the pack drove him near to the try line. Repeated drives by props Sean Lambert and Mark Wilkins and second row Rhys Bevan Jones put immense pressure on the defence before flanker Bleddyn Griffiths and hooker Ashley Poole broke away for Poole to touch down. Outside half Matthew Harris converted to put Celtic in the lead.

Glynneath took the lead in the second half when a poor kick by Celtic was returned at pace for a try and conversion. Coach Kieran Power brought on brothers Damien and Mathew Phillips together with hooker Morgan Reeves  to the front row and Celtic took control up front. A power scrum on half way gave half backs Liam Healy and Matthew Harris good ball which allowed them to find centre Sam Mines arriving at pace. He ran through the defence untouched and drew the full back before passing to Harris for a touchdown under the posts. Harris converted.

The remainder of the game was all Celtic with their pack in full command. Any attempt by the visitors to take play into the Celtic half was returned with interest by Celtic back three of Chris Jones, Kristian Jenkins and Shaun Raymond. The pressure exerted by the Celtic pack resulted in a yellow card for the visitors and a penalty try for Celtic. The whole Celtic Team was voted Man of the Match.
