Ystalyfera 68 v 15 Maesteg Celtic

Maesteg Celtic visited title contenders Ystalyfera for their third away game in league Division One West Central. They came up against a formidable outfit determined to pursue their ambitions at all costs. Their heavy front five used their experience to disrupt the Celtic scrums and slow down the Celtic ball in the rucks.  Their three quarters handled well and showed great pace. Their full back in particular entered the attacking line at pace and caused persistent damage. All in all they ran in ten tries nine of which were converted by their fullback.

Celtic scored three tries and tried hard to get a fourth bonus point touch down but were thwarted by the final whistle. Celtics first try came early in the second half when scrum half Cameron Jones caught a kick ahead deep in his 22 and outpaced the chasers to take the ball 50 metres before linking with left wing Liam Healy. When he was held the ball was switched across field where the forwards were in support. Captain Oliver Petty received the ball from the ruck and ran up the blind side before putting fullback Matthew Harris clear to run in the try.

Celtics second try was also a long distance affair. The home team kicked to touch deep in the Celtic half and were caught by surprise when wing Liam Healy took a quick throw in and sprinted up the touch line unopposed. When the cover defence finally reacted he passed inside to centre Lee Arthur who powered over for the touchdown.

Celtic scored again late in the game when they threw caution to the wind and their three quarters moved the ball quickly. Second row Alex Jones burst through the home defence and slipped the ball to Liam Healey who  took it on before passing inside to centre Morgan Harris to sprint for the line and scored. Final score Ystalyfera 68 Maesteg Celtic 15. Celtic Man of the Match was               .
